Margarita, th'island
This scene, of the mouth of Laguna de la Restinga, in Margarita Island, with the fisherman ships leaning to the mangrove wall and in the distance the arid profile of Macanao peninsula, the island's atmosphere invades our soul and our feelings, revealing a deep relationship between the life of Man, the land and the sea. Man is a land dweller creature. However, from primeval times he wanted to conquer the ocean waters. In his pledge, he designed and built the necessary means of flotation and appropriate vessels to venture into the unknown seas, lying beyond the horizon. Thus he discovered new islands and mainland, for the dispersal of his populations, finding along his voyages the seafood produced by the ocean. Man developed fishing arts and the appropriate vessels. Ever since, an early morning fishing expedition is made to return conceited, with their traps and nets overflowing with sea food. Margarita is an unequaled Island. With fresh and wet mountain summits agitated by Caribbean trade winds. With rocky or sandy coasts and abundant mangrove swamps. With lagoons, estuaries and sandbars, that paint the island. With rustic arid zones, populated by mesquite and other spiny plants. An Island populated by fishermen, which make her life and sing her song. |
